5 cities

   Below is a list of  5 Latvian largest cities.Cities distributed evenly across the country so that each historical region (Courland, Latgale, Vidzeme, Zemgale) has one of the listed cities and Vidzeme even got 2. It is interesting that population of  2nd largest city is almost 7 times smaller than population of capital city. The rest of the top are pretty much the same size cities(towns).

1. Riga 
    Est. : 1201
    Population: 637 971 people

    Fact: Riga has a highest concentration of  Art  Nouveau  architecture in the world.There are around 800 buildings of that style in Riga and most of them can be seen on Alberta  Street.
     Riga Art Nouveau Centre is also trully worthy to visit.
              

2. Daugavpils 
    Est. : 1275
    Population: 94 196 people
    Fact: Famous abstract expressionist Mark Rothko was born here.

3. Liepaja 
    Est. : 1625
    Population: 69 443 people
    Fact: Latvia has it`s very own version of Alcatraz and it is found in Liepaja and called Karosta. Former military port is now a museum where one even can spend a night in a prison.

4. Jelgava 
    Est. : 1265
    Population: 56 743 people
    Fact: This city is situated right in the center of Latvia and is a home to the country`s third-largest university.The university itself is located in Jelgava Palace.Jelgava palace is a former residence of the Dukes Courland and Semigallia and also the largest Baroque-style palace in the Baltics.The palace is open to visitors.

5. Jurmala 
    Est. : 1785
    Population: 56 646 people
    Fact: This quite long town with its white, sandy beaches is the only resort town in Latvia.
Railway station Dubulti is not only a functioning railway station but also functioning modern art site one of a kind in Europe.
