5 legends

Below are just 5 of many Latvian legends. Each of you may propose other legendary stuff  as there is something personal about legend.
I will bring my reasons why these things are legendary :)

RRR(RADIOTEHNIKA)

In this case it is not only radio but company itself.
Radieotehnika was especially famous for its radios, acoustic systems(loudspeakers) and amplifiers.
Company was founded in 1927 and it became the main audio equipment manufacturer during Soviet period.
Surviving after a deep crisis it now produces modern acoustic systems. It is a legend because nearly anybody in USSR used to have at least one RRR item at home.

MINOX RIGA

This miniature camera was 1st produced in Riga from 1937 to 1943(interesting fact that production partially continued also during World War II).Camera was invented by Baltic German Walter Zapp was simple in use and quite expensive which made it a luxury item.
It was also known as spy camera. Production of camera resumed in Germany after World War II.
Ironically it could be produced in Estonia instead but it was VEF factory where Walter Zapp idea found support.
This is a legend due to its uniqueness and because many might have heard a lot about this camera but only few saw it in real life. These cameras are sought after among collectors.

RIGA BLACK BALSAM

Traditional Latvian balsam produced since 1752.
It contains 24 natural ingredients and ceramic bottle protects content from sun light. It was conceived as a medicine and could be found in drug stores(back in times). So apparently it is not just alcohol but a sort of medicine, some use it in small amounts with coffee. This balsam has become a traditional gift to bring with from Latvia. I personally don`t drink alcohol but never heard of somebody abusing this balsam(meaning getting drunk of it).

RIGA SPRATS (RĪGAS ŠPROTES)

Another example of product becoming more than a product but gift to take away with from Latvia. There are few sprats producers in Latvia but these are probably the most popular.
A rare New Years table could get along without this product.

SELGA

Selga biscuits are known for 60 years already.
Would be interesting to taste 60 years old Selga biscuit and compare the taste to 2019 Selga biscuit :)
It is a legend because even our grandparents ate it and it even became an ingredient for a number of cakes.
Few recipes be found on Selga`s official website: Selga

PS: There are many other legends in Latvia, such as Dzintars(perfume, cosmetics and body care products since 1849), Riga moped - a dream of Soviet time boys...
